The Gerremobrant – the circle closed after 41 years

The story of the Gerremobrant begins at the top of Branäsberget on a sunny February day six years before the ski resort was inaugurated and ends at the same place 41 years later.

Today, Branäs is one of Sweden's largest and most popular ski resorts - a feat that might not have been possible without a visit by Hans Gerremo in February 1982. Together with former SLAO colleague Stig Lundqvist, he visited Branäs to, on behalf of the Swedish Tourist Board and the State Industriverk examines the conditions for a ski facility on the mountain.

(In addition to Hans Gerremo, Stig Lundqvist was one of the people who was there in 1982 and test-skied the hill that today is called Gerremobranten.)

In full ski gear, they pulsated forward in the loose snow and slid down the slope that is known today as Branä's steepest. The SLAO delegation's impression after the visit was unanimously positive. The mountain's drop height, design and geographical location made it perfect for a ski resort. There and then began a journey that would become something very special. State loans were given and in 1988 Branäs was inaugurated by the king. The rest is history.

(On February 28, 2023, Hans Gerremo was back in Branäs to inaugurate the Gerremobrante.)

However, Hans Gerremo's journey in the world of skiing did not stop at the visit to Branäs in 1982. His passion for the sport and Branäs has not faded, on the contrary, it has only grown stronger. After devoting almost his entire working life to making skiing the Swedish popular pastime it is today, he left the Branäs Group's board in 2023 after 10 years of meritorious work.

He will forever live on Branäsberget, as a thank you for everything he has done for skiing Sweden and Branäs. On February 28, 2023, Hans returned to the top of Branäsberget – this time to inaugurate the Gerremobrante.
