Winter season news in Branäs
Winter's news in Branäs
Ahead of the 2026/2027 winter, we are investing SEK 54 million in new and improved parts of the facility. One of Sweden's leading snow systems will be even stronger, the ski area will get a completely new slope and our 33rd lift will make it easier for families to move between Björntorget and Soltorget. At the same time, we are rebuilding several slopes to create longer runs, better flow and more route choices through the ski area.
34 new snow cannons and greatly increased capacity
After two years of extensive investments, Branäs has one of Sweden's most automated snowmaking systems. Ahead of winter, 34 additional snow cannons will be installed at the same time as the pump system is being expanded.
- The capacity of the rock increases from 125 to 225 liters of water per second – an increase of 80 percent.
- The lower snow system will have approximately 20 percent higher capacity.
- Multiple snow cannons can produce snow simultaneously when the weather conditions are right.
- Automation allows snow production to start quickly and adapt to temperature and humidity.
- The result will be better opportunities to open more slopes for the premiere and build up snow volumes that maintain high quality all the way to the final weekend.
The expanded snow system also strengthens the foundation for our generous snow guarantee.
Sydsvängen – a brand new downhill run
Branäs will get a new, approximately 300-meter-long downhill slope. Sydsvängen turns off towards the end of Sidvinden and connects to Långsvängen, which leads further towards Mattesdalen and Branäs Syd.
- The new slope creates an alternative route through the ski area.
- The flow between the mountain, Mattesdalen and Branäs Syd will become smoother.
- The load is reduced in the passage where several slopes previously met.
- The family has more opportunities to choose a route and continue the ski day without unnecessary stops.
It was this passage that was behind our April Fool's joke about building a roundabout in the middle of the ski area. There won't be a roundabout – but the bottleneck will be removed for real.
Sidvinden and Mattesgapet get a major boost
The crosswind gets a more even width and slope, while previously narrow passages are opened up. From the headwind descent, there is now skiing directly down the slope.
- Approximately 150 meters that were previously mainly a sliding section will become more clearly skiing.
- The smoother profile of the slope provides better flow and a more consistent riding experience.
- The upper part of Mattesgapet is widened and creates a continuous slope from the Motvinden descent to the lift ascent.
- Around 10,000 cubic meters of solid rock have been moved and reused to shape the new slope profiles.
Björnbusan 2 – Branäs 33rd lift
In Björnbuseland on the mountain, we are building Björnbusan 2, a new 180-meter-long button lift from Björntorget to Soltorget, with alighting at Ladan.
- The new lift increases capacity in one of our most visited children's areas.
- It will be easier for children and adults to get from Björntorget to Soltorget and further out into the ski area.
- More lift options reduce pressure on the existing Björnbusan and also relieve other parts of the lift system.
- The exit on the existing Björnbusan is being raised to provide a better slope and more speed away from the lift.
With Björnbusan 2, Branäs will have a total of 33 lifts for its 34 slopes. The lifts include three express lifts and one gondola lift.
Ski bridge is being prepared for the future
The extensive renovation of the ski bridge will be completed before winter. The total investment in the bridge amounts to approximately SEK 17 million and is being carried out in addition to this year's other investments.
- The bridge is being renovated to ensure a long service life.
- New LED lighting is being installed both on top and under the bridge.
- The lighting improves orientation and gives the bridge a clearer appearance during the dark hours of the day.
- During the work, a scaffolding structure weighing approximately 270 tons and 50 tons of water are used as a counterweight against wind loads.
Small changes – big difference in experience
Better information and easier route selection
We continue to develop the information in the ski area to make it easier to plan your ski day.
- Signage is being improved to clarify different route options through the ski area.
- Queue times at the chairlifts are starting to be measured.
- Current queue times will be displayed on the web and in the digital piste map.
- The information helps guests find alternative lifts and make better use of the entire ski area's capacity.
With 34 slopes, 33 lifts and a vertical drop of 415 metres, Branäs offers great variety, runs of up to 3,500 metres and skiing for the whole family. This winter's new features create even more opportunities to find your own favourite run – from the premiere to the final weekend.
